A Leeds mother has told of her terror after police stormed her baby's christening to arrest a guest who had allegedly attacked an officer.
Laura Moore was celebrating the birth of her son Harvey-Lee with around 60 friends and family in the Tommy Wass pub in Beeston when around eight uniformed officers burst in.

According to West Yorkshire Police they were "met with a wall of hostility and violence" as they tried to arrest the man who had just been questioned about a fight in Old Lane.

As he was being arrested a fight broke out in the function room and police radioed for reinforcements.

A total of 40 officers were involved and nine guests were arrested, including a 36-year-old man who was shot at least once with a stun gun.
Eight officers suffered injuries including "concussion...grazes, scratches and abrasions", according to a police spokesman.

Nine complaints from the public have now been received in connection with the incident at 6.15pm on Sunday.

The matter has also been referred to the force's Professional Standards Department.

Ms Moore, 17, from Morley, who is one of those who have made a formal complaint, said: "There were about 60 of us in the function room, including 15 to 20 kids from new-born babies all the way up to ten-year-olds.

"As soon as the police came in the mums were just trying to get their children out safely.

"I had my six-week-old son Harvey-Lee in my arms trying to get out of the door, but the police kept pushing us back.

"Three of the officers coming in knocked this little girl over and she banged her head. The thing that hurt me the most was not one of the police officers got the children out of the way, and I thought that would be their main priority.

"I eventually got outside with my baby but with no coat, no bottle, just his pram. I was terrified."

Tracy Hyde, 35, from Morley, who is Harvey-Lee's grandmother, added: "We saw eight officers run in and pin this lad on the pool table.

"There was a lass with her little boy stuck behind the table but they wouldn't let her get out. One officer was shouting 'form a line, form a line', and 'step back, step back' then it all kicked off."

West Yorkshire Police last night confirmed that all nine people arrested had now been released on police bail pending further investigation.

A police spokesman said: "Nine complaints have been received and the matter has been referred to the Professional Standards Department

"There will be no further comment until both the criminal and internal investigations are completed," said the spokesman.

Any witnesses should call City and Holbeck CID on 0845 6060606.
