As temperatures rise and more time is spent outdoors, gardening offers a fun and rewarding way to be productive in the sunshine.

Here, we have compiled some tips and advice for all gardeners.

We spoke to Balazs Molnar of the Leeds Garden Crew for his advice for beginner gardeners.

Beginners tips:

Get the right kit! - “A good variety of hand tools are essential to start with, these are only a few pounds in any DIY store.

"For beginners I always recommend battery or electric hedge trimmers, lawn mowers and strimmers – as petrol tools require more maintenance”.

Start simple: “My favourite beginner plant is a strawberry, they are easy to grow with not much space required.

"Other simple starters include potatoes, corn and sunflowers.

"You can buy all the seeds for these at most nurseries or car boot sales”

Expand your knowledge: “Read books on the subject, watch gardening programs on TV and be brave and explore, gardening is a never ending learning experience”

Garden in your community: “Joining a local allotment group is a good idea, there are nice people and are a great place to share ideas and knowledge.
