Whinmoor 'B', an Aire Valley Homes residents' association, celebrated its landmark with a performance of panto Jack and the Beanstalk and a slapstick session from two clowns.

The venue, St Luke's Church in Swarcliffe, was decked out with balloons and bunting, while the local Good Neighbours branch baked a special celebratory cake.

More than 80 local people joined in the fun, 60 of them children from Swarcliffe and Grimes Dyke Primary Schools.

Whinmoor 'B' began life as a group formed by residents who wanted a say on the projects being planned in the area at the time.

Since then the group has gone from strength to strength, getting involved with projects such as cold-weather food parcels for elderly people to flower planting.

Group secretary Dot Scahill said: "We will continue to work with Aire Valley Homes and others to ensure Swarcliffe remains a safe, pleasant place to live."
