Video: Have-a-go hero jumps into freezing canal to rescue drowning DEER
Stephen McKenna, 38, leapt into action when he saw a crowd of people watching the small deer struggling to get out of the water.
The humble dad-of-two from Leigh, Gtr Mancs., said: “I just did what anyone would do. I could not leave it there to suffer. “So I got down to my boxer shorts and socks and climbed in there to help - I’ve never been a bystander, it’s a weakness. “As you can imagine it was freezing, but when I touched the deer it was warm to the touch, it had been working pretty hard and I don’t think it had much left. “It seemed tired and very scared. It was kicking out but soon realised that I was trying to help and it let me lift it up and out of the water.
