Leeds have found joy in the Italian market before, with Pontus Jansson standing out as a strong example of a hidden gem signing from the Italian top tier. Here's nine underrated Serie A stars Leeds could target this summer if they secure promotion.
1. Marco Carnesecchi - Atalanta
The Whites are said to already be monitoring the Italy U21 international, who has been tipped as a real star for the future. He's been impressive on loan in Serie B this season.
2. Hamed Junior Traore - Sassuolo
A bit of a long shot, given that he's on Arsenal's radar at the moment. However, if Leeds get some serious investment this summer, he'd be the ideal candidate to star in their Premier League midfield.
3. Christian Kouame - Genoa
Crystal Palace were meant to sign him in January, but a knee injury scuppered the deal. If the Whites go up, they'd do well to seal the exciting forward for themselves.
4. Matteo Scozzarella - Parma
The 31-year-old midfielder has had a slow-burning career, but has enjoyed a breakthrough since joining Parma in 2017. He's a hard-working playmaker, and could be a fine rotation option.
5. Chris Smalling - Roma (on loan from Man Utd)
He's rejuvenated his career out in Serie A, to the extent he's being considered for an England recall. There's a good chance Manchester United will let the loanee leave permanently, too.
6. Ola Aina - Torino
The ex-Chelsea prospect joined Torino last summer, but he'll likely be moved on if the club are relegated this season. He's a top quality, versatile player who can operate in defence or midfield on either wing.
