BOSS JOHN Duffy is facing some welcome selection headaches ahead of Featherstone Rovers' Betfred Championship opener at home to Halifax on Sunday.

An 18-16 win over Leeds Rhinos completed Rovers’ unbeaten pre-season campaign and Duffy has been delighted with the depth of his squad.

He praised John Davies and Luke Cooper as “superb” throughout pre-season and said: “I thought our guys off the bench against Leeds were good as well.

“Gareth Hock got a run-out and was great. Our back-three were great and Tom Holmes was exceptional, he led from the front when Martyn Ridyard went off at half-time and was really creative and I thought Matty Wildie was good when he went on at half.

“We can always improve, but we are in a good place and we’re looking forward to the Halifax game.”

Some of the Leeds players from last week’s match are likely to be offered to Rovers on dual-registration and Duffy was impressed with what he saw of Rhinos’ youngsters.

“I thought the six [Jordan Lilley] was outstanding for them, he’s going to be a superstar I think,” Duffy said.

“They have got some talent across the board and I thought their younger kids really stood up and will be outstanding talents when they grow up a little bit.”
