Trinity’s regular season ended with a 40-28 defeat at Huddersfield Giants, five days after they had thrashed Hull 72-10. “It was very disappointing, especially after the previous week,” said Chester. “Three times we’ve had a short turnaround and not been able to back a performance up. That’s something I am going to have to look at in terms of the week and our preparation. We’ll have to look at what we’ve done the last three times. We’ve tried to do things a bit differently and we’ve come up with three poor results.” Trinity’s players have been given some time off this week and will report back to begin preparations for the Super-8s on Thursday. Fixtures will be announced tomorrow. Trinity, who finished seventh in Super League, will play home games against Catalans Dragons, St Helens and Warrington Wolves and visit Wigan Warriors, Castleford Tigers, Huddersfield and Hull. Chester admitted a big improvement is needed following last week’s below-par performance. “Our start was disappointing,” he reflected. “The way we defended – especially on the left-edge, which has been pretty good over the whole season – was disappointing and we were disappointed with our completion rate. We came up with some crucial errors at crucial times, there were four or five really key points in the game and if we had a bit more smarts about us or more patience we could have got something out of it. We thought we were going there with a great chance. Take nothing away from Huddersfield, they were good, but we gifted them so much possession and cheap tries.” Anthony England, who has been playing through sternum and biceps injuries, was rested against Huddersfield, but is expected to return for the opening Super-8s fixture and Scott Grix will resume full training this week after a long-term shoulder injury.
